Last fall, we had a great time with our 4 years old boy visiting the Gatineau/Ottawa region for a weekend. Our only plans for the weekend were meeting some friends on Sunday and visiting the Children’s museum. Whenever I’m in vacation, I rely on Yelp to find restaurants. Once again, I was reminded of how practical Yelp is.
The filtering options make it easy to cut down on the number of reviewed restaurants. As a rule of thumb, I focus on restaurants with 40 reviews or more. I also take the time to read the most recent reviews to get a feel of the place, to see if it fits our criteria, what we’re craving for at that moment. Then, I check the food pictures and visit their web site. Frankly, I rarely made bad choices with this technique. Continue Reading
Schleich is known for their figurines. I like them for their trucks. Last year, we bought the farm truck with the trailer at the Biodome gift shop. My son played with them all the time. He enjoys removing and putting back the doors, the wheels, the roof and the trailer sides. I wanted to get another Schleich truck since we were so happy it with them. We bought this brown stripes Safari truck yesterday. He likes it a lot. He brought his new truck next to his bed before going to bed last night. This is the closest that he is allowed to bring toys at bedtime. Continue Reading
We sometimes forget that our little ones have a busy life. They have a lot of fun at daycare but, like you, having a break from their weekly routine is beneficial for them. Why should we confine their vacation time to summer?
My husband and I are both entrepreneurs. We need time off a few times a year, not just in summer. We use that time to recharge our body and free our mind. We usually spread our vacation time over the year. I believe that our toddler boy feels the same. Continue Reading
I became a mom after 40s. I gave birth so late that my age group doesn’t appear in fertility tables. I was 47 years old when I gave birth to my beautiful son. For readers who are aware of the congenital heart defects of my son, it has nothing to do with my age. I don’t have any fertility stories to share since my son was conceived naturally. What I want to do here is addressing misconceptions about midlife parenting.
Some call us selfish to have waited so long, others assume that we do it to fill void in our life. Personally, I feel that it is better for everyone — that is, you and your kids — when you are ready to be a parent. Continue Reading
Here is a fun pretend play alternative to the cardboard fruit and vegetable market. The best thing for busy parents is that you only have to fold it for your kids to be ready to play. Cool features includes a service window that easily opens and closes.
OTO is a brand new toy company starting up in New York. They design and make huge cardboard food trucks for kids. Continue Reading
I intend for a summer filled with sunny picnic at the park. So far, the weather does not collaborate with us. The sun shines during the week and the rain troubles our weekend. And then, it hits me. Why not have a picnic supper on a weekday, instead? I could pack everything in the car before I pick my husband up at work on my way to my son’s daycare. We will be ready to drive to a nice picnic spot in the city. Continue Reading
Now that my son is a toddler who expresses his like and taste, I started to decorate his room around him. They are already three drawings on the walls that I used for teaching the primary colors to my son. He enjoys this little moment which it why I’m thinking to add more wall decor to stimulate him.
Since my son says Beep Beep! so often, I am leaning towards a city life theme with cars and buildings. French Bull makes a wonderful wall decal set with colorful cars, buildings, streets, and outdoor elements. Besides the work load, the advantage of using wall decals, instead of a wallpaper, is that you let your imagination and the wall space dictate what it looks like at the end. Continue Reading
This is more than a post about one iconic chair and four looks that were inspired by it. It is a quick lesson about chic and fun ways for decorating the playroom in your home. Yes, these kids rooms share the bubble chair by Eero Aarnio as a decor feature. If you are a fan of the hanging bubble chair but that you are not ready to splurge for an original for a kids room, know that you can find replica. But they also are great example of white wall rooms with a punch of color. Continue Reading
Being a stylish modern mom means that my son’s gears can’t be an eyesore and they must perform well. But more importantly, it teaches my son about good design.
I bet that your kids won’t complain about eating the healthy food inside these tidy snack boxes. Boon cutely named them Trunk (the elephant) and Cargo (the snail). Assuming that my son likes it as much as his Hippo backpack, he would proudly carry it around. The neat compartments and the snap-seal lid will keep food fresh while we travel. Plus, it is easy to clean everything in the dishwasher.

Zack was formula-fed from the day he arrived home. The futuristic design of the Orb Baby Bottle Warmer has look and feel that I was looking for when we bought our bottle warmer almost 2 years ago. It would have look sharp against my mamaRoo and Fresco high chair. Continue Reading
Since it is a know fact babies needs fat for their brain development, I was surprised when my son reached the solid feeding stage to see that the food industry doesn’t provide parents many options.
And the fascination with 0% fat yogourt, while many are eating bacon and pork belly, does nothing to help parents. I also try to minimize his sugars intake which is why Zack started eating Minigo (fresh cheese) around 10-11 months instead of a regular yogourt. He adores the Minigo! I added the Danone’s Oikos 2% fat a few months later. These days, Zack either eats two Minigo, or a Minigo and a greek yogourt, for dessert at night. Continue Reading
One Sunday morning, my husband suggested that we went shopping for a Fatboy for our son. At the time, Zack was 1 and a half years old. I initially wanted to get him a Fatboy Junior but when we arrived at the store, I saw that I could get a free Point (the footrest/stool) with any purchase of the Original. That promotion sold me since I was dreaming of a footrest every time I need to comfort him late at night. Continue Reading
