The simplest way to enhance your family-style service Thanksgiving menu is displaying your food in out-of-the-ordinary platters and bowls.
A white footed comport, also referred as a footed compote, is perfect to serve your side vegetables. They look great with bright greens like spinach or Brussels sprouts.
I do not know the origin of the bowl on the left. The one at the right is from Sophie Conran for Portmeiron collection. I own this one. At 12.5 inches of diameter, its ample size can serve a big family. When I host an antipasto party, I use it to serve salads or cut breads and savory cookies.
Ruth Cousineau’s Roasted Potatoes and Caramelized Shallots look appetizing in the black ceramic serving bowl.
Naturally, I am fond of the styling done by UK retailer Cox & Cox with the Sophie Conran roasting dish. Cloves of shallot, olive oil and fresh herbs go a long way to enhance the flavor of potatoes. You do not really need a recipe.

On Thanksgiving made easy, a Pear and Blue Cheese Salad looks amazing in a footed comport. This salad only takes 10 minutes to prepare. Simply paring a narrow strip of peel from the middle of each potato gives style to the Oven Roasted Red Potatoes with Rosemary and Garlic dish.
If you are looking for an unexpected spin of the traditional Thanksgiving ingredients, check out the Thanksgiving with a twist menu. The 70’s color palette of the tableware modernized the table.
