I bought two new food preparation gadgets last week that inspired me to scour for more cool gadgets.
Cleaning Potatoes And Other Root Vegetables
First I bought Skrub’a by Danesco. The unique rugged surface of Skrub’a enables skin and dirt to be removed easily. The gloves are dishwasher safe if put on the top tray. Skrub’a is available in green (legumes), orange (carrot) and brown (potatoes).
It is said to be one size fits all but it is ready one size fits all women. My husband cannot fit inside his big hands. His hands cover twice the surface of mines. But it is not an excuse for him to not help me in the kitchen. He can still clean the vegetables by holding one glove.
Cutting Herbs
This is a brand new product from Zyliss. The Herb Snippers enable you to precisely cut herbs when you harvest them. I used to take regular scissors until now. What convince me to try this product are the stem strippers. I easily remove leaves from rosemary and thyme stems.
I love using a mezzaluna to mince my herbs. I got a cheap version at home but I wish to upgrade to a model with a wood bowl. This model by Henckels is a top seller.
Growing and Storing Fresh Herbs
Prepara proposes cool products. The Herb Savor will prolong the life of your fresh herbs for up to 3 weeks. The secret is that the herb stems sit slightly submerged in the water of the water well.
Since Herb Savor fits into the refrigerator door, it does not take a lot of space in your fridge. Check out the video on how to use it on Prepara’s Web site. Can also be used for asparagus.
If you are looking for a solution to grow herbs inside, check out Plant Power Mini, also by Prepara. No dirt is required. You grow herbs from water, nutrients and air. It takes about 3 weeks to harvest the first basil leaves from seeds. Again, a video nicely explains the process.
