10 Stunning Christmas Stockings

Scandi Stripe Stocking

After the tree and the wreath, Christmas stockings top  my holiday essentials. These 10 of my favorite stockings explore a variety of designs. From a Scandinavian design, to a rustic take up to richly embroidered holiday stockings, make your pick.

What I like about this first composition is the fact that you can mix and match stockings. But I might put them as close to an open fire.

A Refreshing Gift for Teachers

teacher gift lemonade drink flags kids craft

teacher gift lemonade drink flags kids craft

The school year is winding down, and if your kids aren’t already singing “no more pencils, no more books…” they will be any day now.

Though certainly not mandatory, a gift for teacher is a simple way for you and your kids to show your appreciation for their dedication throughout the year. The gift doesn’t have to be expensive – especially since you may also want to gift teacher’s assistants, coaches or other instructors in your child’s life – and a little creativity goes a long way.

This refreshing idea from pro-crafter Lisa Storms is perfect for the summer season. Just stuff a reusable acrylic tumbler with gourmet lemonade packets and a thank you note from your little one. Lisa’s free printable drink flags add a scholarly touch.

With a thoughtful gift like this, kids are guaranteed “no more teacher’s dirty looks”.

The Handisleeve by Umbra has an handle, which means that it is easy to hold and drink from. Some textile coffee sleeves can be slippery. It won’t happen with the rubber coated Handisleeve. I see it as a must-have for when you are driving your car. It comes in blue, red, green and black.

Alan Wisniewski designed two two models: the simple Handilsleeve and the Dandisleeve (in black or pink) which shows a flower cur pattern. Both models can fit several sized of cups. You can watch what people have to say about it.

I love my Ze Super Zeros

ze super zeros :: zebu the zebra plush toy

ze super zeros :: zebu the zebra plush toy

Our friend Nathalie of the Foodies Emporium blog gave us one of the most adorable plush toys at our baby shower. From the Ze Super Zeros collection, she selected Zubu the Zebra as the perfect toy for our son-to-be. A cool detail is the logo on its cape. It reads SZ and we will name our son Zack. My husband noticed that it can stand for Super Zack. We like that!

Each super zero has a mini power and a related challenge that teaches kids to embrace what makes them unique and find their inner super zero. Zebu the Zebra is a super good at hiding, using his stripes as ze camouflage! But, he is always getting lost, but his spotted cape helps his zero friends find him. These plush toys are suitable for newborns.

You can buy your own Ze Super Zeros plush toy at Itsi Bitsi in Montreal. While you are there, indulge in one of their delicious cupcakes.

A menu for breakfast in bed for Valentine's Day

A menu for breakfast in bed for Valentine's Day

I conclude our Style Collective’s Valentine’s Day gift round-up with items to prepare a romantic Valentine’s breakfast and to decorate your bedroom.

1. My Pick

I suggest a breakfast in bed. “Your guy will earn points if he brings you breakfast in bed on Valentine’s Day. To make it easy for him, he could get the heart-shaped egg rings and serve your eggs with a warm French croissant and your favorite berry jam. He can make you a tasty cup of coffee, serve you a chilled glass of Veuve, and then finish the meal with a heart-shaped whoopie pie.”

Heart-shaped eggs fry rings, $15 USD at Williams-Sonoma; Bodum Chambord Coffee Press, $34.99 CAD at Amazon.ca; Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin Rose, $77.40 at LCBO; SVALKA Champagne glass, $6.99 CAD for 6 at Ikea; Red Velvet Whoopie Pie Mix, $8.95 USD at Crate and Barrel.

2. Ceri from Sweet Potato Chronicles

“For those who are new to our site: we’re all about healthy family food. Scratch the surface, however, and you’ll find pancakes. Every kind you can imagine and more in the works. You could say we’re a little obsessed. So if our sweethearts wanted to spoil us this Valentine’s day they could whip up a batch of these Pumpkin Gingerbread pancake and make them in these sweet molds. Oh, and let us sleep in.”

Valentine’s Gift Ideas: Smelling Good and Looking Pretty for Valentine’s

scented candles and perfumes for valentine's day gifts

scented candles and perfumes for valentine's day gifts

Now that you groomed yourself, you can think about looking pretty and smelling wonderful to seduce the love of in your life. Here are 5 gift ideas from some of the fashionable Style Collective girls. I let them describe their gift suggestions.

1. Anya from I’m the It Girl

“Roses are predictable but Roseros are certainly not. French luxury perfumiers Diptyque pay homage to the ‘opposites attract’ love between Beauty and the Beast with a duo of candles, and with help from famed French illustrators Kuntzel+Deygas. One is Rose, a romantic garden rose, and the other, Eros, its spicier counterpart. Together they create a perfect harmony, hence the name Roseros.”

Because your home must also smell right to set a romantic mood.

2. Anita from I Want I Got

“The DaLish Cosmetics and Jessica Jensen collaboration is the perfect makeup duo. Choose from five limited-edition kits, [each] including a selection of DaLish Cosmetics and a pink embossed ostrich-leather cosmetic bag. Look for my favorite lipstick color, Ruby Red, in the Berry Delight kit.”

Be My Valentine Kit $48 at DaLish Cosmetics and at Jessica Jensen.

3. Michelle from BEAUTY EDITOR

Smell like a boy (in a good way), whether or not there’s actually one in your life this V-Day. Designed by actress Kate Walsh, this new fragrance captures the scent of a guy, on a girl.”

Cold and Cough Tea Tins at DavidsTea

davidstea cold and cough tea tins

I can’t tell you if it makes you feel better since I did not catch a cold this winter, but I like the concept behind the Cold and Cough Collection at DavidsTea. The cute packaging grabbed my attention.

Cold 911 contains sinus-clearing eucalyptus and juniper berries, plus you get a dose of vitamin C with the orange peel and orange oil. It could make a thoughtful gift to a friend or colleague who is sick.

At the heart of Throat Soother are lemongrass, lemon myrtle and lemon balm, which are known for their antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and/or antiviral superpowers. They are combined with marshmallow root, slippery elm and stevia leaf to create a sweet, hot, healing, lemony tea that coats and soothes your throat. That would be an option instead of my warm milk with honey.

My husband bought the 2011 Baby Coin Set for our soon-to-be-born son when he went to the the post office this morning. It’s funny because I went yesterday and I almost did the same.

Made by the Royal Canadian Mint, each coin set includes Canada’s 2011 traditional uncirculated coins with a unique engraved design on the 25-cent piece! The main feature of this gift coin set is a special 25 cents coin with baby feet. It’s too adorable! When my husband came back from the post office, he said to me “Here is Zack’s first pay”. Or, we might start his first collection.

Follow-up on using Wishpot for my Baby Shower | Getting ready for the baby

follow up on using wishspot for a baby shower

I told you earlier that I created my wish list for my baby shower on Wishspot. Now that my baby shower is passed, I can share how it went. In two words, it works!

The conclusions are that:

  • Many guests used it and found it easy to use.
  • They told me that they found the wish list to be very useful.
  • They used the Reserve function.
  • It guided people in their choice of colors. Everything fits together.
  • I am super lucky. My husband and I adore all the gifts we received.
  • Having a list that is not attached to one specific store is way better.
