Last weekend was the 2009 edition of Nuit Blanche in Paris. For the occasion, Gilles Stassart dressed mannequins in food. “Les diététiques” was presented in 4 cycles at 4 Monop’ stores. The most striking piece has to be this Chanel suit made with ravioli. Wow!

Her tableware collection is sold through many art galleries and retailers across Britain. Lucky for us, the US-based retailer Hygge & West, which ships to Canada in top of the Unites States, carries her line.

If you ever go to Grenada, do not miss this incredible exhibit. British sculptor Jason de Caires Taylor wanted to do something to help the endangered reefs along the coast of Grenada. He came up with a solution that uses his skills. He created artificial reefs made of sculptures fashioned out of materials suitable for marine life.

Jason de Caires Taylor did it with humor. He sculpted modern art pieces in the ocean. It is a fantastic sight. His 79 art pieces continually evolve as nature dwells the park. People can dive to admire this surrealist art exhibit. I would like to go. You can start to understand the magnitude of his creations by watch this video. It is a treat!

Limited edition prints and posters are sold at UnderwaterSculpture.com. Limited edition prints are £260 each and posters are £20 each.

Where Is It?

The underwater sculpture park is integrated into an artificial reef at Molinere Bay, north of St-George in Grenada. Do not expect a sign at the surface of the ocean. The sculptures are sited in clear shallow waters to be accessible to divers, snorkellers and those in glass-bottomed boats. Before you start your quest to explore this unique underwater sculpture park, read this detailed article in Maco. It explains everything you need to know to find the spot.

Two Amsterdam artists, Theodore Watson and Emily Gobeille of Zara Parade created Funky Forest in 2007. This is an interactive ecosystem where children used their body movements to influence the life of a forest and a river.

Kids can use their body or place pillow rocks and logs to divert the water flowing from the waterfall to the trees to keep them alive. It is playful and instructive since if the trees lack water, they would wither and die. Kids could press their bodies against the forest to build new trees. The shape of the tree will be influenced by the child body. When the eco-system flourishes, the kids are rewarded by the emergence of lovely flying creatures. I wish I could play!

Besides the artist value, I wish to talk about this since I see it as the future of kid parties. Imagine booking a venue with similar installation as a playroom. It would be awesome. See how much kids enjoyed the Funky Forest on this video:

Poppytalk handmade is a great online market place where you can to fall upon unique finds. You can find original pieces like these illustrations by Matte Stevens. It happens to depict two places I have been to.

+ Gramercy Park NYC illustrates a stunning area. It is unbelievable that a fenced-in private park still exists in New York. There is another private park in Queens. Gramercy Park is open once a year to the public. Otherwise, it is only available for the residents of the few buildings that share this property. 8.5 x 11 print $35 USD
+ Canal Street New Orleans $85 USF for a limited edition 16 x 20 print.

+ From Solstice Home, I like the idea of Take a Note or Two for your home office or to keep in the kitchen. Sold on etsy from $18 USD.

+ Avril Loreti designed Blackboard Coasters with equations. Perfect for a back-to-school party. Thereafter, you can use the coasters in your office. $14 USD for 4 on etsy.

Check out the Back-to-school Theme compiled by Poppytalk Handmade as they are more great finds.

Samskiart made a wire coat hanger to complete the look. The Red Hair Black Comb would be perfect next to the makeup table. I love the luxury feeling of a makeup desk. I got my first makeup desk when I was at university and it followed me all my adult life except when we moved in our current home. There was no suitable place to put it. I miss it.

These embroidered wall plaques are from two artist sellers on etsy. They do not use the same techniques, which convey an even more artisanal vibe to the wall pieces.

Following the concept of yesterday’s post about vintage style glass milk bottles, I scoured on Etsy these cute porcelain vases from the talented Alyssa Ettinger.

Alyssa likes to fashion her vases with everyday object textures. I showcased her knitwear ceramic vases for Christmas 2007.

Her Milk bottle collection is available as a set or individual vases. She produces them in different bottle sizes. They are dishwasher proof.

She sells them as flower vases but I wish to use them for milk. Alyssa confirmed me be email that all her products are food safe. I am glad that we can use her bottles for drinking liquids. The bottles are dishwasher safe and will show any imperfections, if any, of the antique bottles she used as a mold. I think this fact adds desirable character to her pieces.

These milk bottle vases are only available on etsy. My birthday is in a few months; I will put her Milk bottles on my wish list.

Feb. 26, 2009: I updated my text to reflect the fact that they are food safe.

+ Romping Through the Forest is an adorable glass magnet gift set designed by Lemon Tree Studio. If you have a special request, she welcome custom orders. $4.95 USD

+ Behind One Red Robin is Jhoanna Monte Aranez, a mom with 2 little girls. She designs and hand makes adorable soft toys and dolls. The unique Winston the Koa-chi is made from faux fur, wool flannel, wool felt, and designer cotton prints. $58 USD from jmaranez’s etsy shop.

+ I never watched Mad Men until yesterday. So far, I watched the first two episodes. Set in the 60s, it is interesting to see what the men and women relationships used to be. The second reason why I selected this note card is that it is hard to find great cards for men. Midcentury 15 drawn by Jim Ward Morris qualifies. $6 for 6 cards with envelops

+ If you crave for a hot brownies with a scoop of ice cream, get this set of Hot Cocoa Pots; they come with the recipe. The small ramekins by pottery artist Keith Phillips have beautiful lines. They satisfy my top priority for tableware: they are dishwasher safe. $39 USD for a set of 4
