Many tourists who visit Montreal are looking for a typical Parisian style bistro experience. I compiled a list of the established French bistro-style restaurants that have been around for years.

Laloux produces high-end bistro cuisine. Their menu includes plenty of tasty fish and meat dishes. I always make sure to leave place for desserts. The Chocolate pot-de-crème, caramel and Maldon salt has been on their menu since ages. Although the pastry chefs have changed over the year, regulars will be mad if they removed it. [...]

It is a restaurant where you know that you will eat well. Their classic repertoire is not about reinventing a dish of trying to be creative with flavors. It's more about serving recipes that have been proven. Everyone, from kids to elders, should find something on the menu that they will enjoy. Leméac serves an owl-night menu starting at 10 pm where you get an appetizer, a main dish, tea or coffee for $22. Leméac is known for their comfortable, covered and heated 50-seat patio.
Great for groups

Holder serves traditional French Brasserie food. You get the atmosphere of a Parisian bistro. If this is what you want you will not be disappointed. We often eat there. It’s a good place to eat if you are a group. I sometimes go just with my husband but it’s not a romantic place because it [...]

Le Grand Comptoir is very busy at lunch. Their French bistro food is good and simply done. Since my office is one block away, I eat lunch there a few times a month. My favorite dishes are their veal liver, their niçoise salad and their pork fillet with mustard. Their daily special is priced at $13 [...]

I mentioned this French bistro because you can go for a full dinner at 11 pm any night and not be rushed. Their menu is composed of authentic bistro food recipes prepared in the traditional way. The waiters provide the classic Parisian . They provide an efficient and attentive service. The food is good but not [...]

I have to say l’Express is my favorite, you have to make reservation at night, I like to seat near the front of the restaurant, I feel the back is somehow not part of l’Express. Thank you Kim for your recommandation.
