Cute Angry Birds Cake Pops from Montreal

angry birds cake pops

As an Angry Birds fan, I am doubly happy to feature these cute creations from La Popshop, a baker located in Montreal. I put her on my local watch list.

We are behind when it comes to creative bakers in Montreal. This fact troubled me even more since I became a mom. I would need access to talented suppliers with flair to celebrate in style my son’s birthdays. Plus, it does not help matters that many bakers lack a proper online presence. It is sad because all they need to do would be to start a blog and to keep a Facebook page plus a Twitter account.

If you are interested, her cake pops start at $30 for a dozen of classic cake pops and at $35 for a dozen deluxe cake pops. The Angry Birds are a deluxe version.

It’s OK to Play with Mr. Potato Head Cookies

mr. potato head cookies

mr. potato head cookies

This is one fun idea where your kids can play with their food. The baker behind Oh, Sugar! Events made her own paper templates and cut the pieces by hand. She took the time to nicely decorate each piece. She did a body base on which the kids can design their own face. Her Mr. Potato Head Cookies had been all the rage in Facebook this weekend.

These cookies would be a hit for a play date or kids party. You could bake one Mr. Potato Head body with his face pieces for every child. Or better, wait until Oh Sugar! Events commercializes her Mr. Potato Head Cookies. I am sure that many of us would buy them.

5-Minute Martha: Halloween Haunted House Party Decor Ideas

no-bake halloween haunted house

Being a 5-minute Martha starts by knowing where to spend your time for ultimate impact and where to use shortcuts.

Halloween Cakes: From hard to easy

haunted house cake by martha stewart

Martha Stewart proposed here an awesome Haunted House cake. But let’s face it, I do not have the time, nor the patience, nor the baking talents to make something as complex. To give you an idea of the number of steps involved, I included one of the cookie templates that you will need to bake. I applaud women you can do this, but I am not ashamed to say that I am not one of them.

no-bake halloween haunted house

Having said that, I looked for another way to impress guests at a Halloween Haunted House party. If you are time crunched or if you have minimal cake decoration skills, you will appreciate the ease of this no-bake haunted house kit available at Williams-Sonoma. You simply need to glue the prebaked, precut cookie pieces with sugar icing and affix the decorations. Everything is included in the box. Now, this is something I can fit into my agenda!

Decorating Ideas for a Haunted House Halloween Party

ragged looking spider webs

Since I did not spent too much time on my cake, I can concentrate on decorating the room for the occasion. A must have for an haunted house party are these ragged-looking spider webs made by pinning, snipping, and tearing cheesecloth.

creepy flower centerpiece

You can assemble, in advance, a spookycenterpiece by affixing a few vinyl bugs and a snake with basic craft supplies. Buy fresh roses a couple days before your party. I feel that the insect-infected bouquet would be more realistic if the flowers would show signs of aging. Finally, I would add artificial cobwebs to show that the bouquet has sit there for a while.

From there, it is easy to build on these craft projects and to complete the look of your party. To cut corners, head to a local department store to buy more props. Walmart carries plastic bat cutouts, Halloween cobwebs and coffin treat boxes.

Angry Birds Cupcakes and Robot Cakepops

angry birds cupcakes

Game themed parties are fun for kids and adults. One game that is all the rage is Angry Birds. A geek friend gave our son a red bird plush toy. It is not surprising that Julie of Blue Cupcake received an order for an Angry Birds party. She made a small cake and many cupcakes. Julie relied on tips from her 6-years old son in order for her cake creations to be true to the game. As a player, I can tell you that she succeeded. Frog Mini-Cakes and a Summer Party Theme

frog cakes

frog cakes

I spot these adorable frog cakes when it was pouring rain but I immediately thought of a bright sunny garden party. They are so joyful. She used plain licorice sticks to create the grass around her mini-cake. Use dariole or baba molds to bake your individual mini-cakes. You could bake them for a kids birthday party, a baby shower or to become the center of attention of your annual summer BBQ.

If you plan to host a BBQ at the lake and a pool party for Memorial Day or Victoria Day, you may wish to include those ideas to your party decor. Greet everyone with pairs of flip flops neatly stored in a bucket.

Keep your floral arrangements simple. You could display loose flowers in milk jars or any clear glass bottles that you have. Opt for seasonal flowers, if you can.

Finding Koziol’s products in Canada or the United States can be an impossible task. This is why I was glad to notice them in the latest newsletters of the Canadian etailer Gone Shopping.

A favorite of mine, Babell can be used as a fruit stand or a cupcake stand of 1 to 3 tiers, depending of your need. The look is perfect for outdoor entertaining. It works like the Russian nesting dolls for storage; each tier can be stored under the larger one.

Venitian Ball Sweet Table by Kréavie

Bal a Venice sweet table

carnival of venice costumes and masks

Every month, the talented team at Kréavie shared the making of a fabulous themed sweet table. For February, they designed a sweet table in honor of the Carnevale (Carnival of Venice). It is a one of a kind event that I would like to attend one day. People wear outstanding epoch costumes with the famous Venetian masks.

If you wish to make your own, you will need several props to make it works. Gold traditional elements are a must. It is the perfect occasion to use the formal crystal trays that your grandmother gave you.

Attention to details, like the crystal and macaron tree or the application of gold powder on the meringues, adds opulence to the presentation.

Homemade Oreo Cookie Recipe

homemade oreo cookies

homemade oreo cookies

If you plan to host a baby shower or a kids birthday party, you will want to bookmark this recipe. The homemade Oreos are prettier that the store-bought version and a bit healthier since you can control what you put in. My only concern with this recipe is that the filling contains vegetable shortening. I can’t tell you how to adapt the recipe since I am not a baker. But if you know how, please share how to adapt the recipe with butter or oil in a comment.

This homemade Oreo recipe is really easy to make. It doesn’t require any special skills. I bet that it would be a hit at your next cookie bake sale. Take a look at the recipe from Emma of The Marion House Book and Smitten Kitchen‘s adaptation of the recipe  from the cookbook Retro Desserts by Wayne Brachman.
