The moment I laid my eyes on this Japanese disposable tableware, I said Wow! Now, that I am informed about the entire line up of WASARA, I am in total admiration.

Behind The Concept

For the first time around, a paper tableware collection is fashioned according to ancient Japanese culture and architecture. The forms and texture of the tableware are nothing like you have seen before on disposable tableware.

Stylish Green Living

WASARA is made from the pulp of tall perennial grasses called reed and a sugarcane waste called bagasse.

In forest-deprived countries, bagasse is a popular tree-free alternative for making paper. We can look at this disposable tableware as a sustainable product if we consider that its production reduces normal waste. Bagasse dinnerware is also more biodegradable and easier to recycle than paper goods.

Appealing to Our Senses

A curve that fits the natural handgrip provides better support and makes it easy to hold the plates with one hand. At the center of the design was the desire to infuse a handcrafted feel to the entire collection.

Typically in Japan, you eat in the tableware best suited for the ingredients or the recipe. This concept explains the extent of WASARA’s line up. The plates, Maru and Kaku, are available in small, medium and large. The Nagakaku trays are available in small and large format. Three bowls, a tumbler glass, a wine cup and a coffee cup complete the collection.

WASARA will hit the retail market at the end of August 2008. At this time, I have no clues on how much it will cost or where we can purchase the line. I will inform you as soon as I know more. Let’s hope it will be available outside Japan pretty soon.
